Make Money from Your Smartphone While Shopping!

I have three AWESOME apps I need to remind you about: iBotta, Endorse, Plink, and Shopkick.  All reward you for doing the shopping you already do!  And they're pretty darn easy to use, and therefore to make money!  And the best part is ALL of these are free apps, available in the app store!
  • Endorse is a simple, free way to get cash back for buying your favorite products in stores. Earn anything from 10% up to 100% cash back on your everyday purchases from stores like Walmart, Target, Walgreens, Kroger, Safeway, CVS, Whole Foods, Costco and Trader Joe's. Further, Endorse helps fund local school projects via DonorsChoose.org.
Here's a sample of what my Endorse account looks like.
  • iBotta works much like an electronic coupon app, but with a fun twist!  Take quick surveys, read recipes, and view videos related to particular items-- all to earn higher value coupons for select products.  Then after you've purchased these items, scan your receipt to redeem these coupons.  (And, yep, this allows you to "stack" store, manufacture, AND iBotta coupons all at once!)  If you sign up through my link here, you can get a $5 "friend" bonus!  Seriously, you can't lose with this one!!
iBotta is available at countless stores nationwide -- here's a just a few.

  • Shopkick keeps the spirit of "checking in" to places alive with this clever app.  By simply walking in to your favorite stores (Tar-zshay, anyone?) you earn "kicks".  If you have a little time to spare, and want a fun little treasure hunt, scan select items for bonus kicks.  Kicks can be traded in for gift cards to your favorite stores, like Target, Best Buy, iTunes, Old Navy, and Macy's -- just to name a few!

  • Plink rewards you for shopping and eating out.  Simply attach a card you most use when you shop or eat, and it'll keep track of your spending -- you'll be rewarded with "plink points" based on the amount spent.  (Yes, you have to enter your card info, but
Disclosure: these links are my personal referral links, and you do support AFM if you sign up under me.

Keep on saving!  :o)

(Shhh.... Sneaky) Sloppy Joes

Want to bulk up a simple classic with some veggies?  Try my Sneaky Sloppy Joes. Sauté some onions, garlic (two staples I put in just about any skillet dish), finely diced squash, finely chopped spinach.  You can also add finely diced carrots, bell peppers of assorted colors, brocolli, and whatever else you can sneak in to the pan!  I do all this before browning the ground turkey.  Then, prepare as you normally would, whether your sloppy joe sauce is canned, enveloped, or made-from-scratch (c'mon!). I've been packing mine with extra veggies for over a year, and no one is none the wiser.  Yet. (Please don't show this to my family...  please?) This recipe is also posted under my Big Oven account.  :o)

Ditching the Sponge

Ditching the Sponge This summer I accomplished something I once thought unthinkable: I gave up the sponge.  It was a gripping addiction, harder to kick than a nasty nicotine habit.   ...a habit that had the ability to spar k the silliest of arguments amongst even the best of   roomies.  Right, SwimBikeMom ?  :P  But once again, I digress; that's a blog for another day. Perhaps a tad  OCD, I was one of *those* people who had a sponge designated for various parts of the kitchen: one for the floor, one for the counters, and another one for dishes.  I knew for quite some time that sponges were a breeding ground for all things disgusting; however, I was not keen on the idea of using paper towels, or other disposable products -- I had  to find a GREEN alternative to sponges.

Unit Price, Unit Price, Unit Price!!!

I have discovered that many people do not take unit price in to account when attempting to shop savvily.  (Did I just make up a new word?!!)  So for my fellow frugal shoppers, or my frugal-shoppers-in-training, let me explain the value in knowing the unit price of an item you wish to purchase, or are pondering purchasing. What the heck is a unit price??
