Office Depot update

As I mentioned in a Tweet yesterday and on FB, I had a rather unpleasant experience at Office Depot yesterday.  I came in with coupons in hand, (as well as with a toddler who quickly became tired, hungry, and restless) and after hunting down the sale items (they really want customers to traipse all across the store to find the items on sale!), I went to check out.....

(You should also know that the cashier was also on the phone, in a somewhat surly voice, explaining this-or-that to a customer, all the while I'm waiting to ask him about the coupons, and inquire as to why one of my items rang up differently from the price advertised...  Whilst on the phone, he kept gesturing toward the card swiper, perhaps indicating that I should just buy and get the hell out of there.  On the other hand, there was another O.D. employee happily flirting with my daughter, thus keeping her entertained while I waited on Mr. Sunshine to finish my transaction.  Why, oh why, couldn't HE have rang us up instead!?)

As I handed him my manufacture coupons, as well as the $10 off $20 coupon, I was told that they could not accept the manufacture coupons, since they had already lowered the price, and the coupons would make the items free.  After all, "you can't just get them for free!"  (Side note: manufacture's reimburse stores whenever they accept their coupons -- so this wasn't really an issue on the store's end.)

With little patience left, I simply and politely asked the cashier to cancel the entire transaction, and hand me back my coupons.  After I got home, I got on Office Depot's website to see if I could locate their coupon policy.  Shockingly, it is not available online, so I sent a message to customer service, inquiring about the coupon policy, and sharing a little bit about my experience in one of their stores.  I got a quick response this morning, asking for the specific store where this incident occurred -- I assume, then, that their policy will vary from store to store.  So, when I find out more about their policy, I'll gladly let y'all know.

In the meantime, I made sure that I had all my other main stores' coupon policies printed out and in my coupon binder.  Y'all make sure you do the same -- it certainly helps build your case when dealing with less than pleasant cashiers who want to reject your coupons.  :o)

On a personal note, as a loyal shopper at Office Depot for many, many years, I am rather disappointed in this.  I'm certainly hoping that this was an isolated incident, and that their coupon policy is not as blatantly crappy as this one cashier is making it out to be.  (Yes, I said "crappy" -- I'm at a loss for a better word at the moment.)  I'm hoping that my toy store will redeem itself with the response I receive from customer service.

Ditching the Sponge

Ditching the Sponge This summer I accomplished something I once thought unthinkable: I gave up the sponge.  It was a gripping addiction, harder to kick than a nasty nicotine habit.   ...a habit that had the ability to spar k the silliest of arguments amongst even the best of   roomies.  Right, SwimBikeMom ?  :P  But once again, I digress; that's a blog for another day. Perhaps a tad  OCD, I was one of *those* people who had a sponge designated for various parts of the kitchen: one for the floor, one for the counters, and another one for dishes.  I knew for quite some time that sponges were a breeding ground for all things disgusting; however, I was not keen on the idea of using paper towels, or other disposable products -- I had  to find a GREEN alternative to sponges.
