Fixed Gas Rates in Atlanta

As a follow up to a previous link to an AJC article, I have some information to share about the natural gas options available. After doing a little investigation in to the recent surge in offers for a fixed rate gas plan, I have come to a few conclusions. First, most of the fixed rate prices are between $0.719 and $0.81. Guess what? Unless I'm planning on heating the Taj Mahal this winter, that ten cents won't make a whole heap of difference. What does make a difference are the following:
- Customer service fees: most companies fees are $5.95, with two exceptions. Walton EMC is $5.75. Gas South, with this promotional offer good through September 4, is WAIVING their customer service fee of $5.95, for the entire time you are a customer.

- Credits for cancelled accounts. Both SCANA and Gas South are offering to reimburse you, if you are charged a cancellation fee from your current provider. My conclusion, however, is that this is only applicable if you are currently on a fixed-rate plan, and opt to cancel your contract before it reaches its termination. Those on a variable rate are NOT under a contract, and not applicable for a cancellation fee.  (This is the case for GA Natural Gas customers, at least; check with YOUR provider to be sure.)

- Finally, I did what should have been painfully obvious during this process, but didn't occur to me until the tail end of my investigation: I checked the rates of my CURRENT provider, Georgia Natural Gas. Their fixed rates were not competitive. Thus, the switch is on its way...

So, for my household, we are going to make the switch to Gas South, as it offers a low fixed rate price ($0.77), plus waives the $5.95 customer service fee for the duration of our time as their customer.

P.S. That promotional code for Gas South is 1610, if you're interested. But you must act quickly -- the offer is only good through September 4.

Ditching the Sponge

Ditching the Sponge This summer I accomplished something I once thought unthinkable: I gave up the sponge.  It was a gripping addiction, harder to kick than a nasty nicotine habit.   ...a habit that had the ability to spar k the silliest of arguments amongst even the best of   roomies.  Right, SwimBikeMom ?  :P  But once again, I digress; that's a blog for another day. Perhaps a tad  OCD, I was one of *those* people who had a sponge designated for various parts of the kitchen: one for the floor, one for the counters, and another one for dishes.  I knew for quite some time that sponges were a breeding ground for all things disgusting; however, I was not keen on the idea of using paper towels, or other disposable products -- I had  to find a GREEN alternative to sponges.
